Is This the Year of Desktop Virtualization?

ETS has been a Citrix Gold partner for nearly 13 years. Over the last 3 years, we’ve watched as Citrix, VMware, and Microsoft have battled each other over the “VDI Turf”. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure has been touted as one of the biggest paradigm shifts in the history of personal computing.

As the smoke continues to clear, Citrix looks like they’ll be the desktop virtualization champion. They’re currently considered “the hands down leader” in the desktop virtualization space as declared by The Gartner Group. But, many Citrix implementations will include virtualization technologies delivered by Microsoft. And, Citrix implementations do run on VMware platforms. So, it’s good to stay current with “the big 3” virtualization players.

We are currently engaged in a number of Citrix XenDesktop deployment opportunities representing several thousand seats, with several more projects in the near horizon. At the rate that your peers are adopting XenDesktop, this very well may be called the year of desktop virtualization!

Are you planning a desktop migration to Windows 7, or migrating your server fleet to Windows Server 2008 64-bit server platform? Do you have a new Enterprise app that needs to be rolled out, or do you need to enable a remote or mobile client base? All of these situations are catalysts for adopting a virtualization strategy. And we’re seeing many of you doing this.

ETS has also bolstered our implementation team around virtual infrastructure. With the wave of implementations that we’re already seeing, and the expected projects from those of you who have yet to raise your hand, we wanted to be ready. So, we’ve added 8 additional, highly trained implementation engineers who are specialists in virtualization technologies. In doing so, we’ve also increased our geographic coverage to now include the Midwest (Chicago area), Texas, Colorado, and Southern California.

As you plan your virtualization project, we’d encourage you to consider the virtual platform that you’ll deploy as part of an ecosystem. There are many moving parts, provided by multiple manufacturers that will comprise your new foundation. ETS is here to assist you. We’d be happy to learn of what you’re planning to accomplish, work through any roadblocks that may be in your path, and help you to realize all of the benefits of a new virtualization system.

The sooner you take the leap, the sooner you’ll be able to reap the rewards.
