ETS Helps Valley Metro Move to Managed Data Center Solution for Significant Savings

PHOENIX, Ariz., March 18, 2019 – Managed IT services provider ETS (Enterprise Technology Services) is helping Valley Metro, the Phoenix area’s regional public transportation agency, save more than 60 percent in data center costs. The savings started after ETS facilitated Valley Metro’s move from its directly contracted data center operation to an innovative colocation data center solution managed by ETS.

“Our previous data center had utilization requirement minimums that exceeded our actual usage,” said Valley Metro’s Manager, Information Technology Phil “Oz” Ozlin. “By moving to ETS’ managed data center, we pay only for what we need with the ability to efficiently grow as we go.”

ETS has been providing IT services to Valley Metro for nearly eight years. Services today include a dedicated team of engineers and help desk technicians working onsite as well as a managed services program to help monitor and manage desktops and on-premise servers.

“Having ETS staff here with us every day is a tremendous help,” Mr. Ozlin said. “By understanding our business, they better understand what we need from our IT systems. They are focused on outcomes, not outputs.”

The familiarity of ETS’ onsite staff and expertise of its data center personnel combined with Mr. Ozlin’s experience with a previous data center move resulted in a near flawless changeover. “We condensed the typical six months of planning and preparation down to about two,” Mr. Ozlin said. “Our window for transitioning was a Friday night to Monday morning, with a couple of additional backup weekends just in case. We were done Saturday night…including user-level verification that all systems were a go.”

“Our managed data center solution provides Valley Metro with a local, state-of-the-art, highly secure and fully managed Tier 3-certified data center,” said ETS President Jim Siragusa. “It provides 100 percent uptime reliability on the building and power and 99.999 percent internet uptime.”

As a fully managed solution, ETS operates a 24/7 network operations center at the data center. It enables Valley Metro to carry out any “hands-on” tasks without traveling to the facility. “ETS’ onsite presence at the data center gives us immediate expert remediation of any potential issue,” Mr. Ozlin noted. “This is critical as we move more and more of our operations through the data center.”

“No one likes making a data center move,” Mr. Ozlin concluded. “But our long-term relationship with ETS, their people and ultimately the flexibility and cost savings of ETS’ managed data center solution made this move a smart one for Valley Metro.”
